STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming

Your first step you need to take to become a fully qualified swimming teacher.

This qualification will teach you the knowledge and skills required to teach your very own classes independently. You will be qualified to teach up to 12 participants from non-swimmer up to improvers. No previous experience required.

The STA Award in Swimming Teaching covers:

  • Safeguarding Children, Young People, & Vulnerable Adults,
  • Planning, Delivering, Assessing and Evaluating Swimming Lessons,
  • Understand a Swimming Teacher’s Role,
  • Understanding the Health and Safety Requirements for an Aquatic Environment,
  • Understanding the Scientific and Learning Theories Relevant to Swimming Teaching 

This all makes up the Total Qualification Time of 68 hours     

The course is assessed by:

  • the completion of a portfolio, including 2 schemes of work, 3 lessons plans, and 3 lesson evaluations,
  • and a 30-minute external exam of your practical teaching.

The cost of the course payable to MXT Swimming School before the course commencement date is £350.00, which includes all course materials.

Pre-requisites

Before your certificates can be released you need to meet the following pre-requisites:

  • Be 16 years or older at the start of the course
  • Be a member of the STA*
